Hosting Unadoptable Children
There are many children in Latvian orphanages who cannot be adopted. As they grow older into their teens, they quickly realize that they have little hope, little support, and little chance at a "normal life". Statistics tell us that
- 10% of teens who leave the orphanage to transition to independent living commit suicide within the first year
- 60% of the boys become involved in organized crime and end up in jail
- 50% of the girls become involved in prostitution
Why? Because they believe that they have no other choice. With no enouragement, no one to love them, and no hope--why bother?
What can we do?
Over the last several years God has revealed the answer to us. He has shown us what can change the lives of these children--Hope. Hope through someone encouraging, loving and praying. Hope in the new knowledge of their Heavenly Father. Hope for a future.
Isaiah 52:7 (NIV) says to us, "How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, 'Your God reigns!'" You and your family can be the beautiful ones who bring this Good News to a teen through hosting.
What can YOU do?
"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?" Romans 10:14 (NIV)
Without families willing to open their hearts and their homes to these unadoptable teens, families willing to sacrifice, families willing to love unconditionally, families who are willing to encourage the children and be their "family" even if from 5,000 miles away... without families these children may not find hope.
Is God calling your family to bring hope to a child?
If He is, please contact us at Jennifer@SimplyForLatvia.org and let us know. We'll gladly answer questions and pray with you as you hear His answer for your family.
Please see our Testimony page. Rosemary from Dallas, GA would like to share of her experience hosting a 14-year-old girl who is unavailable for adoption.
